It is also the first fiber-delivered laser featuring a large, square spot size and an integrated plume evacuator for an unrivalled treatment experience. Medically speaking, laser hair removal is a procedure in which you use a concentrated beam of light (a laser) to remove unwanted hair. The laser uses light that is absorbed by the hair follicles to create heat. This heat damage inhibits future hair growth.

Multiple sessions will be required initially to remove hair, with on-going “top-ups” – usually every 6 months or so.

Historically, contrast between hair and skin, i.e. dark hair with light skin, resulted in the most successful outcomes for laser hair removal. This is because you want the laser to target the pigment of the hair, but not the skin. However, the BLEND X technology that powers our SPLENDOR X machines changes all of that, and allows us to perform treatments on a range of skin types like never before.

There are many benefits to choosing laser hair removal over other methods, including:

  • It’s quick. Our SPLENDORX machines allow gives us an unprecidented speed and coverage rate.
  • It’s much less painful than other methods. Our machines include a cooling system that actively removes heat from the skin tissue, meaning most patients never feel a thing.
  • It’s precise and can remove hair from virtually any part of the body, down to tiny areas like your centre brow or upper lip. Aside from the eyelids, if you have unwanted hair we can remove it.
  • It’s a long-term solution. After your initial sessions, the occasional top up will keep you hair free for good. That means no more shaving, no more waxing, and no more having to endure the regrowth stage. It also ends up being very cost effective – no more razors or waxing appointments!
  • It even reduces the risk of ingrown hairs.
Laser hair removal usually requires between 2 and 6 treatments initially, which will vary depending on which area you’re having done, your skin type, how quickly your hair grows and your hair colour. These will usually be spaced 4 to 12 weeks apart. The sessions can be anywhere from a few minutes for small areas or several hours for large ones. A consultation with one of our doctors will give you answers on exactly how many sessions and their length that you may require.

During the procedure you’ll wear protective goggles whilst our fully trained team apply the laser to the chosen area. The machine then emits an intense beam of light targeted at your hair follicles which damages them to slow any future hair growth. The SPLENDOR X machine simultaneously emits cold air on the target area to remove any heat from the skin, which reduces the risk of skin damage and discomfort.

In preparation for laser hair removal, you must:

  • Avoid exposure to sunlight where possible. That means no sunbeds, too! Where you’re going to be out in the sun, make sure you’re wearing a factor 30 suncream or higher.
  • Do not pluck, tweeze, wax or bleach the hairs for at least 6 weeks before the procedure. The laser works by targeting the hair follicle and its pigment, so you want them to be fully intact on the day of the treatment.
  • Shave the area the night before your treatment. This increases the effectiveness of the procedure, reduces any risk of skin damage and promotes faster healing.

If in doubt, call us or check the FAQ’s on this page.

Hairs will not fall out immediately after the procedure, so don’t panic! They will begin to shed over a course of days and weeks. This might look like hair regrowth, but it’s just part of the process. It’s important that during this time you are gentle – don’t scratch or rub the area.

There may be some initial redness or light swelling after the procedure, which is normal. Apply ice to help reduce this, and a thin layer of aloe vera a few times a day will help stop future redness or irritation by keeping the area moist.

For 3-5 days after the treatment you should avoid swimming, perfumes, very hot showers/baths, saunas, tight clothing, bleaching creams, exfoliating or skin peels.

What are the side effects of laser hair removal?
Short-term side effects can include some redness, swelling or irritation to the skin of the area undergoing treatment. This is normal and nothing to be concerned about. Our SPLENDOR X machines have advanced cooling systems designed to reduce the heat on the skin tissue and therefore reduce the chances of these side-effects. For details on how to reduce or treat these side effects, see the aftercare section above.
WHAT ARE THE RISK OF LASER HAIR REMOVAL?
Aside from the short term-side effects of redness, swelling or irritation, the main risk associated with laser hair removal is changes to skin pigmentation. Historically, darker skin was at greater risk however through the BLEND X technology we are able to treat darker skin tones much more effectively and with much lower risk. Avoiding the sun in the period leading up to treatment is key to reducing this risk.
